Innovative medical device for the automated administration of hypertonic solutions into the peritoneal cavity of patients undergoing renal replacement therapy.
In order to integrate our peritoneal dialysis therapeutic platform, we are developing increasingly precise and effective medical devices. This is the case of LeanPD, an innovative medical device for the automated administration of hypertonic solutions into the peritoneal cavity of patients undergoing renal replacement therapy.
The feature that will make our device unique is its ability to monitor intraperitoneal pressure throughout the entire dialysis procedure, thus allowing control of all parameters to avoid overfilling or the pain associated with negative-pressure emptying of the peritoneal cavity. An increase in either positive or negative intraperitoneal pressure is common with currently used devices and can lead to a range of serious complications, as well as compromise the dialysis process. In fact, peritoneal pressure overload induces significant hemodynamic alterations affecting the cardiovascular system, which in some cases have resulted in patient death.
LeanPD may also find application in cases of reduced ultrafiltration efficiency, gastrointestinal issues such as hernias or membrane damage, and in pediatric patients to optimize the fill volume of the peritoneal cavity.
